This will be a simple post today. This is something that has recently been brought to my attention. I hope that it will touch somebody else as much as it has touched me and my life!
Psalm 37:4, “Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
I used to read this verse and expect my desires to be fulfilled. That’s what it says, right? I was joyful, taking delight in the life I was blessed with. After a while, I discovered the desires I had were not being fulfilled. I must have been doing something wrong. I must have been wrong!
Just recently I’ve come to the realization that my interpretation of Psalm 37:4 was incorrect. I read it as this: If I’m happy while praying, reading my Bible, and praising, then God will give me the things I ask for. BUT that’s not what the Bible means!
The way this verse should be read is like this: Delight yourself in the Lord. Give him your all! Give him complete control of your life. Put your trust, faith, and confidence in the Lord. When you (Psalm 37:5), “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him,” he will put Godly desires into your heart.
If we look at Psalm 37:4 that way, then we can stand in faith that (Psalm 37:23&24), “If the Lord delights in a man’s way, he makes his steps firm; though he stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.” When we are doing the will of God, the desires he has placed in our hearts, He will make sure we succeed!
