Oil pulling is basically using oil as a mouthwash. Our oil of choice is coconut oil since it has antibacterial properties and it tastes nice.
The process is simple. Just put about a 1/2 tablespoon of coconut oil in your mouth first thing in the morning. Then, swish it around and pull it through your teeth as much as possible for 10 minutes or so, trying to touch every spot in your mouth. When you are finished, spit it in the garbage (not in the sink). It’s also important to mention that you do not swallow it or gargle with it as it is full of bacteria. Treat it as toxic. Finally, rinse your mouth thoroughly and brush your teeth.
Oil pulling is apparently an Indian folk remedy and has been around for a very long time. The way it works is that it seems to pull the nasty bacteria from your mouth and leaves your teeth shinier and whiter while also freshening your breath. It also seems to lessen the congestion from your throat and sinuses. It’s helpful in detoxing the body. Because of this detoxing effect it can help with skin problems, asthma, allergies, migraines, arthritis and the list goes on and on. There are too many health benefits to list here so I would suggest trying it for yourself. I believe you’ll be pleasantly surprised!
