Bottling Hard Apple Cider from a Mr. Beer Kit

We have moved on to the next step of making hard apple cider with our Mr. Beer kit.

This time we are on the bottling step. First, we sanitized our bottles and added a little sugar to aid in the carbonation. Fresh Apple Cider

A couple weekends ago we invited one of our daughters and a couple grand kids over to try out the new Whizbang apple grinder and cider press that we just finished making. The basic instructions for both devices came from Planet Whizbang.

The apple grinder is made using half of a double sink and a garbage disposal connected to an open end PVC pipe. The stand is all made with metal scraps because my husband works at a metal fabrication shop.…

Plumple Sauce

Along with all the many apple trees we have at our home we also have a plum tree that produced an abundant amount of plums. I turned some into jelly, canned some whole (probably won’t do that again), froze some, and made plum-applesauce (known in my house as plumple-sauce). I will share the recipe that I used to make our first batch. You will probably want to reduce the amount of water you use only because ours is a little runny.…

Dehydrated Apple Chips

We have been blessed with a large amount of apples at our new home. We have at least 10 honey crisp apple trees and 4 trees with baking apples. Not wanting any of our produce to go to waste we had to come up with ideas for preserving these apples (have to preserve because nobody can eat that many apples before they go bad). Some of the ideas we have are applesauce, canned apple pie filling, and dehydrated apple chips.…
